Papers of Simeon Burt Wolbach, 1901-1961 (inclusive).

Papers reflect Wolbach's research, teaching, writing, and other professional activities. Research materials include correspondence, reports, notes, data, memoranda, photographs, and reprints concerning his experiments and studies on infectious diseases, particularly Rocky Mountain and spotted fevers, and typhus; vitamin deficiencies; and bacteriology. Include snapshot album, diary, and maps from Gambia Expedition in 1911; research notebooks on bovine tuberculosis and rickettsia studies; report, notes, charts, case histories, correspondence, autopsy reports and photographs for typhus study in Poland from 1919 to 1924; and autopsy reports of influenza deaths in Massachusetts in 1918. Teaching materials include copies of his lectures for special pathology course in 1933-1934, correspondence with colleagues at Harvard Medical School, and papers about departmental matters in the Harvard Medical and Dental Schools. Also contain manuscripts of papers, articles, and other writings, 1903-1957, based on his research, with illustrations for his publications. Other professional activities reflected in the papers include his involvement with professional societies, such as American Association for Cancer Research and National Research Council Committee on Pathology; consulting; and editorial work for Archives of Pathology. Some biographical information, with memorial tributes, is also in the collection.

Wolbach (Harvard, M.D. 1903) was Shattuck Professor of Pathological Anatomy at Harvard Medical School from 1922 to 1947; pathologist-in-chief at Peter Bent Brigham, Boston Lying-in, and Children's Hospitals in Boston, Mass., until 1947; and director of Division of Nutritional Research at Children's Hospital from 1947 until 1954.
